Defence defers training

THE Defence Force has deferred its recruitment training to January because of funding issues, according to commander Maj-Gen Gilbert Toropo.
Toropo said 300 people who applied had been selected for the training at the Goldie River military base in July.
But it will now be in January.
Toropo said funding allocated to the military had been exhausted because of operations it conducted at the border and in the Highlands.
“We got a list of 300 personnel already,” he said.
“Recruiting is more or less complete.
“It is just the training commencement that we have deferred to January because of funding.
“There are some issues with the recruitment process especially medical checks.
“We will ensure that those selected are medically fit to participate in the training.”
Toropo also said the 18-month training for the 50 cadet officers will start at the end of this month at the Igam Barracks Joint Forces College in Lae.
