Defendants fail to appear in 14 cases

FOURTHEEN fresh cases were mentioned at Waigani Committal Court on Monday, but defendants did not appear in court.
Police prosecutor Sgt Chris Iga told The National that the cases were under the prosecutors’ lists, but since the defendants had not been appearing in court, the lists were sent to Magistrate Paul Puri Nii.
Iga said the defendants’ names were mentioned outside the court several times, but there were no appearances.
The defendants were Mathew Kipott (false pretense), Kathleen Kantha (forgery), John David (sexual penetration), Samuel Jack (wounding), Ellie Galewa (intent to defraud), Nobert Steven (sexual penetration), Alice Sambusi (defamatory publication), Junior Peter (sexual penetration), Steven Rawai (sexual penetration), Tony Dambo (fraud), Kopal John (grievous bodily harm), Dominic Joe (electronic forgery), Joseph Lega and Janet Hulameri (stealing).
Magistrate Nii wanted all defendants to come to court and adjourned all matters listed to Thursday (yesterday).
