Defer this year’s general election

Letters

I AM calling on the Government and the PNG Electoral Commission to defer the general election this year to a later date.
Yes, the Constitution does not allow that to happen, but the Government has the mandate to defer the election.
The Constitution allows for all citizens above 18 to vote a leader of their choice.
The Electoral Commission is unprepared – the population census is not updated, no proper common roll updates, no security assurance from the three disciplined forces and no funding for election officers, not forgetting the Coronavirus (Covid-19).
Nature does not allow the election to proceed.
Defer the election until we are fully prepared.
