Delay in pays too frequent

THE delay in the payment of public servants’ salaries has become too frequent, says PNG Trade Union Congress secretary-general Clemence Kanau.
He said in a statement public servants were human beings with families to take care.
“The State has the responsibility to pay their salaries on time. (Its) failure to pay their income on the due date equates to the characteristics of an uncaring and unscrupulous employer inflicting unnecessary sufferings on its employees and, by default, their families,” Kanau said.
“The employer should and must be penalised, or compensate employees for such debacle.
“Sadly our employment laws protects the employer more than the employee hence, whatever the cost of inconveniences are, the employee is unnecessarily forced to bear without recourse or remorse from the employer.” He warned that the congress would call for a stop-work for all public servants if there was any more pay delay in the future.
