Delilah steals opening show

Education

A YOUNG school girl Delilah Bireo stole the day at classroom opening ceremony for Barava Adventist Primary School in Kieta District of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
Fighting back tears Delilah delivered an emotional speech thanking the Member for Central Bougainville Jimmy Miringtoro for making funds available for the construction of the state-of-the-art classroom 2-in-1 for the school.
Delilah’s speech reverberated her generation’s hunger for education in a region which has a lost generation that missed out on education in the 10-year conflict in Bougainville.
Delilah appealed to her fellow students to look after the classroom as it cost a lot of money to build.
A teacher’s house and an ablution block were also constructed under same funding allocation of K450,000.
At the ceremony when opening the classroom, Miringtoro said he had spent 75 per cent of his district services improvement programme (DSIP) fund allocation in building schools to ensure these projects were fully completed and delivered to the schools.
He said despite misinformation regarding financial state of the country being spread by those intending to contest 2017 elections, his government will continue to honour its commitment to the Bougainville Peace Agreement.
“The National Government gives it’s full support to the referendum and the date that been set for it as that of June 15 2019, when we would decide our future and on the future of our children,” Miringtoro said.
