Demanding career move

Letters

IN every national election we see a lot of people aspiring to be politicians while former politicians try to get back in.
Whatever their motives may be, the job of a politician is more demanding and riskier than before and it can end up ruining someone’s life.
First and foremost, no one is above the law and you can regret for the rest of your life if you end up behind bars for breaking a simple law.
You have to understand a lot and you need to read and write a lot too.
If someone else does the thinking for you, you may be trapped and end up in a mess.
The laws and financial operations of public accounts are now computerised and if you spend public money outside its intended purpose, you’ll end up in trouble.
So the public life of a politician is full of pressure, especially from the voters who think money grows on trees.
Only genuine politicians without fraud in their blood will survive in this day and age of information technology.
