Department holds workshop to find out total number of teachers

The Education Department under its general services division is cleansing the master position register (MPR) to know the exact number of teachers in elementary, primary, secondary and vocational schools in the country.
The MPR would use the information to advertise positions for eligible teachers to apply.
The one-week cleansing workshop held from May 13 to 17 was attended by the 22 provincial education advisers.
Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra said: “Their participation was essential as they would provide updated information on the number of filled/vacant positions, qualified/unqualified teachers and schools that were operating/closed or suspended.”
He said the goal of the education system was to achieve 100 per cent enrolment of students.
Kombra said all concerned stakeholders should work towards quality education for the two-million plus students.
He said the enabler for this was quality curriculum through which the necessary knowledge, skills and values were taught and attained by students.
Kombra said the education system needed quality teachers who should be competent in the subject knowledge, the art of teaching and were committed and passionate in teaching.
