THE Implementation and Rural Development Department is currently disbursing K222 million for the service improvement programmes (PSIP and DSIP) to provinces and districts, acting secretary Aihi Vaki says.
Vaki said the funds should be used on impact projects that were economical, and sustainable for effective basic service delivery to improve the lives of people living in villages and communities.
He said service improvement programme funds needed to be spent based on five-year development plans and projected budgets estimates as approved by the joint provincial planning and budget priority committee (JPP & BPC) and the district development authority (DDA).
“Districts and provinces must identify gaps in important areas that need serious consideration and intervention, especially at the local level government and ward levels where the majority of the people live,” Vaki said.
“Funds must be spent on projects such as roads, education and health infrastructures, and other sustainable programmes in partnership with local communities to empower and improve their living standards.”
Vaki said beginning next year, the department would visit each province and districts to monitor and evaluate projects and programmes implemented on the ground and match them with SIP acquittal.
