THE Department of National Planning and Monitoring is taking the lead in providing support for the formation of the fourth Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP IV) 2023-27.
Speaking during a recent consultation workshop in Kimbe, West New Britain, deputy secretary for policy and planning Michael Kumung said planning was about the expectations of the future and realising the needs to be designed and structured to get to that state.
“It is our job to ensure we put certain standards to ensure we achieve this,” he said.
Kumung said the long term plan stated that by 2030, PNG would be a middle-income country and needed to continue with the next MTDP.
“MTDPs are timed in accordance with the political term cycle of the country, the lifespan of the MTDP III will lapse at the end of this year,” he said.
“We need to continue from where we have progressed.”
Under the MTDP IV theme “Learn the lessons and do things differently’”, Talasea MP Francis Maneke acknowledged the department for allowing the consultations to be held in Kimbe.
