Dept should prioritise repatriation exercise

Letters

THE Police Department should prioritise the repatriation exercise for families of police officers who have passed away in their line of duties.
While focusing on the proposed K1.3 billion by the Police Minister William Onglo in Monday’s paper to rebuild the constabulary, the department should take into consideration and sort this issue swiftly.
Some widows and orphans are still waiting for the repatriation assistance.
The delay shows that the department is not serious in addressing this issue despite the effort and commitment by the late members.
Seven months ago, few families were given a 14-day eviction notice and asked to vacate the police premises without any prior consultation.
Few families have been threatened and assaulted while some houses were illegally entered by police officers.
This is unacceptable and I call on Onglo, Madang MP Bryan Kramer, Madang Governor Peter Yama and the concerned officers to look into this issue.
The repatriation issue should be taken seriously so we have space for police personnel.
