Dept to take action on teachers, school boards

 The Department of Education has promised to take action on head teachers and school boards if they are late with school acquittals. 

Education Secretary Michael Tapo said those who failed to submit their acquittals on time would be disciplined.  

He said acquittals from schools had been “very poor”and the department was finally taking a stand to improve them.

He said acquittals were compulsory and important as they provided a proofon how government funds were used. 

He said there were people at schools finding out about how money has been used so that reports could be filed and presented to the government and public accounts to show accountability.

“Acquittal is a serious matter and because of that, I may stop spending on things such as travels for my office staff but I can’t stop money going into schools when they have not acquitted funds. 

“Therefore, there are people out there to collect reports on how funds have been used.”

Tapo said if acquittals were not made and reports were filed, disciplinary action would be taken against head teachers and school boards.

He said the department had had enough of negligence by schools in complying with regulations and they should be penalised.
