BULOLO MP Sam Basil has assisted Buang soccer team Bee Stones with K5,000 for their campaign in the sixth Wawens Cup which is underway at Lae Football Association Park.
Basil said he wanted to boost the morale of the club from Moniau village in ward four.
“The best players from the (Moniau soccer) association are competing in the tournament,” Basil said.
“After hearing of their participation, I’m happy to come and support them.
“We did the same on Monday for Bulolo Urban Soccer Association and Bulolo rugby league.
“I’m happy that Stones are doing well to lead Pool B with three wins from as many games so far.
“I hope that they’ll do well to qualify for the finals.”
Basil said he was happy to visit Stones and thanked the Talair Compound families for accommodating the team while they took part in Lae’s biggest offseason soccer tournament.
“Tournaments like the Wawens Cup unearth hidden talents from the villages,” the deputy prime minister said.
“They give Buang youths a chance to showcase their talents and impress (Kumul Petroleum) National Soccer League franchises.”
On behalf of the team, Stones assistant trainer Archie Darius acknowledged Basil’s support and added that they would do their best for the remainder of the tournament.
