WAWENS Cup Pool A leaders Poro were put to the test in the last pool game by Wansolwara as the game ended in a goalless draw at Lae Football Association Park yesterday.
The team from Papuan Compound, featuring the Gunemba siblings Raymond and Troy, Nigel Dabinyaba and Albert Golopaul, recorded three wins from as many games before the draw.
With a number of Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League players and untapped young talents, both teams had equal possession but they failed to make their chances count.
Poro and Wansolwara in Pool A have qualified for today’s preliminary finals with Poro taking on Bee Stones, who are the Pool B runners-up, at 8am on ground one.
Pool A runners-up Wansolwara will face Pool B winners Osrac at 8am on ground two.
Tournament match commissioner Alex Toki, when announcing the preliminary finals placing for today, said the Under-17s would have one of their games in the morning.
Toki said all the pool games had been completed and teams were now into the preliminary finals before the quarterfinals.
“Those teams that qualify for the quarterfinals will play semifinals on Friday and then have a rest on Saturday before the finals on Sunday,” he said. The other preliminary finals to be played on ground one following the Poro-Bee Stones game will see 10 City United play Momase, Saints face Bumayong United and Bismarck meet Wakanak.
On Ground two after the Wansolwara-Osrac match, G-Gingump play PS United, Pascol take on B-Tech, and Tribes battle Bumneng.
