A LOCAL fashion company has come up with the initiative to use the runway to carry out awareness on issues affecting the country.
PNG Fashion and Design Week director Janet Sios said during the launching of the second fashion runway show on Tuesday in Port Moresby that last year, they had the theme based on tribal eclectic.
It focused on the tribal settings in PNG where designers displayed on stage designs which promoted the preservation of PNG’s cultures.
“The theme for this year’s fashion show that will be hosted at the Sir John Guise Stadium indoor complex on Oct 5 to 7 will be on climate change,” she said.
Executive officer Christopher Lam said they believed that climate change was an issue which needed more attention.
Sios said their first show last August that was hosted under the PNG Fashion Week brand name.
They had seven local designers showcasing their diverse and creative work at the Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby.
