RAMU nickel project developer Ramu NiCo has embarked on a “train the trainers” programme that aims to produce more skilled workers.

Training manager Jeffers Teargun Heptol said they aimed to train existing experienced and qualified national staff so they could train other unskilled and new recruits.

“We train them basics on identifying the needs of the employees, collect information, prepare training packages and manuals, different presentation methods and skills required, assessing competency, training check lists, session plans, assessments and others,” Heptol said.

More than 20 national workers at the Basamuk refinery are attending the training programme which started on Aug 20 and will end on Oct 14.

“We are assigning two to three days each week for the intensive trainings so that they also attend to their respective work,” Heptol said.

He said the trainees would return to their respective departments, identify areas and issues to address, package them in training manuals and deliver to the inexperienced and unskilled or new recruits.

“Each personnel trained to be trainers can go back to their respective departments confidently and train others so the skill is multiplied. We will closely monitor the trainings and skills transferred so all are satisfied while the Project production improves in line with high safety standards,” Heptol said.

He said more training would be conducted in the future depending on the outcome of the current training.

Heptol is a graduate from the University of Technology with Applied Physics with Electronic & Instrumentation and holds a Masters from China’s Northeastern University in Power System & Automation.

He is a certified trainer and assessor obtaining his qualification from HSBS Australia with TAE40110 trainers’ qualification.
