FORMER Digicel PNG Foundation chief executive Beatrice Mahuru will contest the Motu-Koitabu chairman’s seat in the upcoming local-level government elections in Port Moresby in Sept-Oct.
Mahuru is the first female candidate in Motu-Koitabu to contest the chairman’s seat.
“I may be a woman but I stand determined for a better tomorrow,” Mahuru said.
She was nominated last week (Friday) with support of family members, friends and supporters.
Mahuru said she put aside her senior executive career in the corporate world to contest in the elections, with the aim to bring about development and change for the Motu-Koitabuans whose land made up the capital city, Port Moresby.
“I believe it is time I give back to my people by serving them through public office should I be successful,” she said.
“The success in my life attributed to my Motuan father’s huge heart and my Kairuku mother’s strictness for standards.”
Mahuru was chief executive Digicel Foundation for more than seven years, coordinating the delivery of much-needed education, health and other social service initiatives to marginalised communities across PNG. Meanwhile, rites were issued for 14 seats for the council, two seats for women representatives and one for the chairman in the Motu-Koitabu Assembly.
Campaign has started and will end on Sept 28 followed by polling on Sept 29 to Oct 13.
