Fence to stop risky crossing

CAPITAL city manager Benard Kipit says the new fencing being built under Vision City (VC) Footbridge will serve several purposes, including safety.
The bridge will also influence people to cross over the bridge rather than the risky road and help the place look tidy and organised for the beautification of the city, he said.
“The (National Capital District) Commission has a contract with the PNG Gardener to build fences as well as plant flowers to beautify the city,” Kipit said.
Kipit said vehicles more often than not passed in the area under the footbridge at high speed which meant high risk for pedestrians crossing the road over four lanes.
Kipit said the Commission has an existing agreement with the PNG gardener, for the costing of this fence. He said he was unsure of the cost.
