SUPPORTING athletes with disability in their bid to realise their sporting dreams is what Steamships Trading Company aims to do with its annual sponsorship of the PNG Paralympic Committee.
Presenting a cheque for K10,000 to the Paralympic Committee, Steamships corporate development manager Darren Young said it was a great achievement the country would be sending two Paralympians to the 2012 Paralympics in London.
The two athletes are Francis Kompaon – a T46 who will be competing in the 100/200m event, and Timothy Harabe – in the 75kg category of power-lifting.
Harabe will be making his debut at the Paralympics, while Kompaon is returning to his silver medal winning event.
Young said Kompaon’s silver medal in the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing, was a proud moment for the country.
