TRUKAI Industries’ continuing monthly donations of 10 bags of rice (10kg) and a K10,000 cheque presented to Life PNG Care in Port Moresby will go towards supporting more than 300 disadvantaged children.
The K10,000 was given as donation on behalf of Freda Pake for being the winner of the 2019 Trukai Community Award at this year’s Westpac Outstanding Women’s (WOW) award.
Director of Life PNG Care Colin Pake said the money will go towards paying for school fees, clothes, bus fares and food for children who are disadvantaged by situations beyond their control.
Pake said the number of children in the centre was increasing every year but resources were scarce to meet needs.
He said 56 children were housed in his residence and 300 more come in for food and clothes.
Colin said the charity organisation looked after children who were orphaned, abandoned, or lived with abusive guardians.
He explained that they helped teach the children literacy and numeracy in a bus which drove around as a mobile classroom and then pushed some of them into the public school system.
In addition to teaching them the organisation also helped to provide clothes, food and housing for the children.
A Trukai Industries spokesperson said they were pleased to present the cheque as part of its WOW sponsorship to help Freda and Colin continue to help unfortunate children in Port Moresby.
Colin thanked Trukai Industries for the cheque and their continuous monthly donation of rice.
