NEW East Sepik police chief Insp Charles Parinjo has urged his team in the province to work together to bring back the lost pride and image of police in Wewak.
Speaking during his first parade with more than 150 auxiliary members in Wewak last Friday, Insp Parinjo said businesses and the public had lost confidence in police because of the lack of discipline.
“Uniformed policemen and women are seen doing private work or are using police vehicles to transport their families,” he said.
“Some are even using the uniform to trade marijuana and home brew.
These activities should stop immediately,” he added.
He warned that anyone who failed to heed his warning would face immediate expulsion from the force.
Insp Parinjo urged the auxiliary members to work with their base commanders to stop the sale of “steam” (a local home-brewed spirit) and unlicensed liquor dealers.
