IALIBU-PANGIA MP Peter O’Neill, through his tuition fee assistance scheme, presented two cheques totalling K293,000 to a group of tertiary students in Port Moresby last week.
The Ialibu-Pangia Students Association at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) were delighted to get school fee assistance from their member.
Ialibu-Pangia development authority (DDA) representative Samson Wareh presented the two cheques to the students with K242,000 to internal students and K41,000 to external students.
Wareh said the funding assistance to cover the students’ tuition fees for 2020 was late because of the Covid-19-related state of emergency.
“The cheque was meant to be presented earlier this year but due to certain factors that were beyond our control, especially with the situation on the Covid-19 and other issues, we were not able to do so,” he said.
According to Wareh, the subsidy was paid to the university’s account at the beginning of the month.
