District pledges funding

NORTH Fly MP James Donald says the district will pay K500,000 to fast-track amendments to the country’s Oil and Gas Act (1998).
Donald said the district was doing it for the good of the district, Western and the country.
Last Friday, he urged Prime Minister James Marape to hold back any deal on the P’nyang gas project pending the amendments to the Oil & Gas Act (1998).
“I stressed that I am serious and would (consider other) options available,” he said.
Donald said the district development authority would pay the K500,000 to the Department of Petroleum and Energy under Minister Kerenga Kua. He wants the department to sanction a team of experts and advisers to go through the legislation to see which sections needed repealing and amending.
“Every time I argue and confront the minister (Kua) on the amendments, his usual response is that the Government hasn’t given the funding yet,” he said.
“Ever since he took office in May 2019, his department has been waiting to get funding. If we care about our country and our people, we must put resources from our own sources. I am committed to put my time and effort to drive this agenda (with) minister Kua.
“We want to see the bill passed before mid this year.
“I call on other colleague MPs to support us to amend the resources laws including this Oil and Gas Act without delay.”

  • Support you member, present Licence – Based Policies of the PNG Government is stupid policies creating too much poverty for our people.

We must Repeal and apply Production Sharing Contracts/ Policies. Mama Papa Graun Pati will do that when we come to government in 2022.

  • Thank you Honourable Member for North Fly, Your courage to take the fight head on without fear or favour on national policy issues is something to be applauded by all but also as an example to our current sitting members of parliament and future intending candidates. This is one such issue that should be used as a policy platform by all candidates campaigning during election time, apart from the usual promises of building roads, clinics, schools etc…the list goes on. True Papua New guinean leaders must start seriously talking and actioning reforms of policy and laws that will bring greater good to this country and its people. Your fight is from a resource rich province but the benefits will cover all of PNG……that is where the money is made from these resource projects where money is used on vital services like roads, school and health ect…..

  • Talking with action is better than too much preaching. we have meetings here and there coming up with all sorts of resolutions but who is going to implement those resolutions and when will it be implemented. the more we delay, we are dragging the progress of this beautiful nation. if there is no more, we shouldn’t be making soft promises. if all MPs including the PM were likeminded as James Donald, we would be in the right track for the development of this country.

  • This is one of the very important issues at this time. The decision and amendments will affect our national income and livelyhood.Adjustment is a part of every process so it’s good to do that.
