District puts aside K2.1mil to help fight poverty

Usino-Bundi MP Jimmy Uguro says the district’s K2.1 million budget is designed to alleviate poverty in the villages.
Presenting the budget to Treasurer and Deputy Prime Minister Charles Abel last Friday, he said it was in line with the district and national government plans.
“Services such as roads, education, bridges, water supply and the district development authority are supporting every ward to have all these services delivered. We have 34 wards in the Usino LLG which means 34 councils,” Uguro said.
He said there was limited revenue which was a challenge for the LLGs.
He said it was the MP’s responsibility to work with the presidents and support them. “We have our district plan and it is rural focused and we are supporting the LLGs so we are going to offload our programmes direct to the communities,” he said.
“We believe that when we develop communities we will develop this country that is why the budgets are all aligned.”
He gave as an example the roofing iron programme that will go to the families and will require the LLG support in delivering that service.
“Another programme is electricity. We have Aguila power distributors to help connect the houses in the electorate. That’s why LLG budgets are important and I urge the LLG presidents and councillors to look at how we can work together.”
