Division prepares for 3 ward by-elections

THE division of autonomy and local level government affairs is preparing for the by-election of three wards in the New Ireland.
This includes ward 4 in the Murat local level government (LLG), ward 22 in the Central LLG and ward 17 in the Konoagil LLG.
All members of these respective wards have died.
Director for autonomy and coordinator for local government affairs Ricky Fugonto made the announcement on Thursday on Mussau Island during the official opening of the Murat LLG chamber.
The by-elections will allow for the updated ward record books to be used to identify eligible voters and, if proven successful, will also be used as the electoral roll for the 2022 National Elections.
“The ward record book update exercise is not a new one, it was used before but was ended and now we are reviving it,” Fugonto said.
