Do something about drug crisis in country

Letters

THE National’s front page on Feb 8 “Drug Crisis” should be an concern for every citizen.
Professor Glen Mola said there was no access to life-saving drugs at the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH).
PMGH is in the heart of nation’s capital and if it is facing a drug crisis, what can we say about other hospitals in the country?
Their challenges are probably worse than those of PMGH.
We understand that the supply of shipment of drugs could have been affected by the impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic.
However, the shortage of drugs in our hospitals is a clear indication of a lack of preparation and unplanned service delivery by the Government.
As the result, many patients are told to purchase their own medication in pharmacies.
Where will those who cannot afford to buy medicine go?
Using a simple analogy, if a family doesn’t have food on the table for the dinner, the first person to be blamed is the head of the family – the father.
Therefore, the Government is solely responsible for this drug crisis and immediate action should be taken to address this.
Act now.
