THE Dockers continue to push their claim as one of the strong premiership contenders with another strong outing in the Port Moresby Esi Loan Premiership at the Colts Oval over the weekend.
The Dockers accounted for an exhausted Suncity Cats outfit with an easy 7.8 (50) to 3.4 (22) victory.
Against the wind, the Cats began strongly with master tactician Kelly Kaugla creating play with his usual evasive runs through the packs.
Kaugla succeeded in working the ball up to the frontline and found skipper Jackson Nawi For an early six-pointer.
That was followed by another goal from Kaugla who once again worked the ball up and made no mistakes to nail the six-pointer.
The Dockers looked unsettled, and found themselves gasping for air.
They finally got into the match midway through the first quarter with Brendan Bola slotting their first six-pointer off a brilliant mark.
The wharfies added one more goal and two behinds and went into the first recess leading 2.2 (14) to 2.1 (13).
The second quarter was an even battle with both teams having their fair share of possession but much of the action was concentrated in the midfield. The Cats had the wind advantage in the second quarter but only managed to notch seven points while the Dockers added six to tie the scores (20-20) at halftime.
The Dockers took control of the game in the third quarter with Bola, Desmond Kaumu, Archie Mai Jr, Emmanuel Tupia, Laurie Logo, Ferdinand Musi, Hosea Wartovo and Jason Logi calling the shots with their height advantage.
The Cats rarely saw much of the ball and walked off scoreless while the Dockers nailed three goals and as many behinds to maintain the lead 6.5 (41) to 3.2 (20) at the end of the third stanza.
The final quarter was a formality as the Dockers continued to dominate to notch one goal and three behinds to the Cats two behinds.
In the other game on Sunday, Gordon Kokofas beat Gereka Bombers 6.9 (45) to 3.11 (29).
In Saturday’s clash, Concept Koboni welcomed the return of Hapeo Bobogi with a 18.17 (125) to 5.0 (30) victory over the Gerehu Magpies.
In the women’s matches, Concept Koboni and Gordon Kokofas ran out victors in their respective matches against the Gerehu Magpies and North Waigani Royals Tigers.
