The United States embassy has sponsored the only epidemiologist from the Department Health to participate in a US-sponsored international visitors’ leadership programme on infectious diseases.
The announcement was made on Friday by US Ambassador Catherine Ebert-Grey.
Dr Mathias Bauri is an emerging young leader in the field of epidemiology, and the experience he would gain would help him improve the country’s capacity to respond to infectious diseases.
He will be attending the three-week programme from June 18-July 6 in Washington, Atlanta, San Francisco, Sacramento, Reno and Miami.
He would provide leadership in research, disease surveillance and emergency and outbreak responses.
He also serves as a faculty member in epidemiology training in PNG.
