Don’t be ignorant, get vaccinated

Letters

I appeal to the Prime Minister, the Health Minister and the National Pandemic Controller to immediately consider:

  • PUTTING in necessary measures and to enforce the immediate ban of visitors travelling in from Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy and the Czech Republic due to the new wave of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) strains and variants like the B.1.1.529 named “Omicron” that has been detected already in these countries;
  • INCREASING safety distance between persons in public places from the new normal to 5 metres.
    The new Covid-19 strains and variants have learnt to travel as “air droplets” and “aerosols” (finer particles) too, and, therefore, the virus is able to travel further and able to infect more people more quickly;
  • STRICTLY enforcing no spitting and spitting of betel nut in public places and on vehicles and public transport, especially PMVs.
    This offence should draw a heavy penalty of K10,000
    and corporal punishment applied;
  • ENFORCING 12 or less passengers in a 25-seater PMV bus and reducing passengers on dingies and boats.
    The Government or NCDC’s City Hall and councils owe it to its people to run a properly managed PMV service in the urban centres, similar to other civilised, democratic countries around the world.
    We cannot continue to succumb to this stone age mentality of running the public transport system;
  • BANNING dodgy face masks and enforcing medically approved and recommended face masks (at least 3 layers) be worn in public places;
  • MAKING it compulsory for all public buildings, including hospitals, medical clinics, shopping centres and government and public buildings, to have better and upgraded air filtering systems with infra-red to kill bacteria and viruses, installed immediately; and,
  • ENACTING and enforcing the law that only those with genuine Covid-19 vaccine cards and are indeed vaccinated, be allowed to access shopping centres, markets, PMVs, other services and government and private buildings that are used by the public.

Many civilised, democratic countries are now enacting such laws to minimise the transmission of the Covid-19 and its strains and variants.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) and our PNG health authorities have strongly recommended that all persons get vaccinated to receive some form of protection from the viruses.
Leading scientific-medical teams in various countries are now quickly studying these new strains and variants, like “Omicron”, and how to counter them with new vaccines.
It is far more logical and sensible to enjoy a safe festive season with your family, friends, villagers and people in your respective areas without the Covid-19 then it is to spend your time in a sick bed fighting for your life.
The flip side, who have the scare mongers telling people, “Do not get vaccinated!”
They tell people the vaccine will not cure you, it will not provide food, it will not provide employment, it will not provide safe shopping centres and safe markets for you!
BUT, the scare mongers are saying all this but have not provided any substantive alternatives.
Do not be disobedient and be a fool like those idiots in Noah’s day, please get vaccinated!
