Don’t fall for empty promises

THE coming election has already brought out those who want to serve and make Papua New Guinea and the livelihoods of its citizens better.
At the same time, the election flushes out all the wannabe millionaires and questionable individuals who want to make their own lives better through more power, wealth or both.
Unfortunately, for our country, of the thousands who will run for this general election and ultimately sit in the parliament, most citizens fear that the worst members of our community will win seats, elected by their wantoks and cronies who they hope will help provide for them.
You can already see from the names in the media who intend to run for seats and some of PNG’s most reputable characters are putting up their hands.
There are those that keep coming back, even after the electorate has kicked them out.
The message is simple – a member of parliament serves their people.
They don’t get paid to do private deals.
They shouldn’t become instant millionaires.
And they should always be people of good character, high values and have your interests at heart.
PNG has enough con men in higher offices.
It is time for us to become the country we deserve to be.
It starts with all of us and making sure we elect only those who can help us do this.
Don’t get distracted by the empty promises or cash for vote payments.
Vote wisely.
