Don’t send children home over uniforms

Letters

A PRIMARY school three kilometres from Goroka towards Chimbu has been turning away students whose parents cannot afford to pay for their uniforms or proper outfits.
Turning students away because of clothing is uncalled for.
The school’s administration and board, who know how this country is faring economically, have placed another burden on parents.
This particular school has breached the Government’s education policy of “No child left behind”.
And what of the Government funds (subsidies) paid?
How have the students benefited from this money?
Teachers at the school who are practicing this military-like strategy of sending children home because of uniforms must also teach better in their classrooms as well.
Otherwise, this is a call to the appropriate authorities to follow-up on this school as a child’s right to be educated is being disrupted.
It is a wonder if other primary schools in Goroka and Eastern Highlands are implementing this “taking back school uniforms” exercise.
