Don’t use Covid-19 to penalise children

Letters

I AM shocked to see that our teachers are using the Covid-19 pandemic as an excuse and leverage against the Government.
I think it’s high time the PNG Teachers Association and teachers take a good look at themselves.
What image are we trying to teach our children when we appear on television with black betel nut-stained teeth, unshaved faces and a very poor command of English?
“Dis en det en wan tu tri”, really teachers?
Is this the low undisciplined standard that we have fallen to?
You must ask yourself about the type of teacher you are and the image you are portraying to our young people.
It’s time parents got off their backsides and started demanding this gang lift their standards.
The Education Department has to be held accountable for teachers’ issues.
If these teachers are not compliant, don’t pay them, send them home or sack them.
He who hath no sin may cast stones.
Do not blame the State, you are all grown adults.
If you can’t clean your filthy teeth, maintaining good hygiene and wear clean clothes then you are a disgrace to the teaching profession.

  • Thanks Balimo Wabea. That’s part of self discipline too. One can’t simply command respect from others whilst displaying an image that is on the contrary.
