Dr James for Moresby North West MP

Letters

I WRITE with due respect to honour our most admirable economic reformist leader of our democratic country, late Sir Mekere Morauta.
Sir Mekere was a great social and political pillar of this nation – from pre to post independence up until his last breath.
He died as a national patriarch – despite being ill, he was determined to serve the country.
His involvement in politics was not because he wanted to, instead, it was due to the economical crises in the mid 90s.
He stood up and used his economist know-how to help solve the issues plaguing the nation.
He was one of the most influential people in our history and had a great impact in our country’s socioeconomic progress.
His service and contribution towards the social and economical growth and development is so big that he should be respected and honoured with high recognition through his family’s legacy.
I would like his son, Dr James, to continue his father’s political legacy within the remaining 18 months of political vacancy in the Moresby North West electorate.
I respect the democracy we practice where when there is such a political vacancy, it is not a hereditary seat such as a royal inheritance, but, with due respect and recognition, it is a fitting tribute.
I trust Dr James will hold this office for the people of North West because he is qualified. He is his father’s son.
Service is in his genes.
Most of you will not agree with me since many will see this is as unconstitutional.
I am appealing to Prime Minister James Marape, the appropriate authorities and the people of Port Moresby North West to consider this. Suppose we are to conduct a by-election, how long will it take to prepare for it?
How long will the whole process take?
How much money is going to be used knowing that we are facing a financial crisis?
If we go through a by-election, it will take just a few months before the next elections.
To hold a by-election with only 18 months left in the term will be too expensive and demanding.
I have faith that Dr James will accomplish the dreams his father had for the people and the country.
Let him take on his father’s legacy since this is the highest tribute our country could pay to Sir Mekere and his family.

  • let him contest with the others in the by election and if he wins, than good on him and if he doesnt than he has a life to live, we cannot force him to become a politician, anyway why a by election when the person voted will only have 18 months to be in office compared to the others who have 5 years, the person voted in will only give in to corruption and not serve the people so its waste of time and money, so I suggest the government appoint a care taker administrator to oversee the running of the electorate.
