UPSETS were the order of the day in the Moresby South Rugby League second round at the Sir Bill Skate Oval, Kaugere, Port Moresby at the weekend.
It was disappointing as the highly financed Gabutu Dragons coached by Bagelo Solien were beaten 6-2 by MTSL Vadavada United in an evenly contested affair that went down to the wire.
In the other match, Koki Eels denied Talai Spartans 14-6 to celebrate their new uniforms courtesy of a local businessman.
Muni Knights continued their winning run with an 8-0 win over 2-Mile United handing their first loss.
League chairman Brown Murema described the upset loses as evident of teams seriousness and preparation towards their weekend matches.
“We are determined to raise the level and standard of the competition in Moresby South so we can be competitive like Port Moresby Rugby League,” Murema said.
He said and the only way was for players, both men and women, was to be discipline and committed on and off the field.
“We should also change our attitude and approach to the game and lead by example for the younger players in Under-20s and also the women’s team.
“If we do that, then it will be not long that we’ll match the PRL,” he said.
Port Moresby Vipers rookie winger Shane Haro remains the competition’s best product from the competition which is now a major competition in the city.
