East New Britain’s University of Natural Resources and Environment-Gazelle Football Association (UGFA) has joined the Football Federation of Papua New Guinea (FFPNG), boosting the John Kapi Natto-led body’s aspirations.
The launch took place on campus over the weekend, with plenty of entertainment and exhibition matches to mark the move.
Student Representative Council (SRC) president Jaspar Daun welcomed FFPNG to the university.
“Sports is another thing that unites people and builds relationships,” Daun said.
“I am proud to announce that UGFA is owned by the SRC and we regard this association as our newborn baby which we will mould and bring up to be a development pathway for the students, Gazelle and East New Britain.”
UNRE vice-chancellor Professor John Warren said it was a proud moment for the university.
“I’m proud of this association, and I’m pleased that this is going to get so many people moving forward,” Warren said.
President Kapi Natto stressed to UGFA about having the passion to drive football forward.
He said FFPNG was all about bringing football to all corners of the country.
“This is our dream to take football to all the four regions of this country,” Kapi Natto said.
UGFA kicks off its season this weekend. The competition has U15, U17 and men’s and women’s divisions.
There are 12 clubs taking part from all around Gazelle.
