A GRADE nine student was killed and another badly injured last Friday after the end of Grade 10 final examinations at Wasu Secondary School in Tewai-Siassi, Morobe.
The incidents happened after the students drank homebrew, according to Morobe police commander Supt Alex N’Drasal.
“After drinking the homebrew through the night, the students disturbed the community at Wasu station,” he said.
N’Drasal said the student was stabbed with a knife by an unidentified person and was rushed to a nearby health centre.
“The relatives of the wounded student retaliated and seriously wounded another grade nine student. He died from on the way to the hospital.”
N’Drasal said the relatives of the dead student then burned down houses including some State properties at Wasu.
A fight erupted resulting in other people being injured.
It continued over the weekend.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, N’Drasal said a primary school board chairman was killed after being attacked by a group of youths armed with bush knives. The motive for the killing was unknown.
In both cases, suspects were arrested and are in police custody.
