A MAN accused of causing a power cut in Manus for eight hours on Sunday is facing four traffic charges, including drink driving.
Police in Lorengau said the man’s vehicle ran into a power pole at Loniu village along the Lorengau-Momote Road, causing a power cut in the town area.
Police commander Chief Insp David Yapu said: “Not only was he (driver) drunk, the passengers on board the bus he was driving were also drunk, the incident occurred on Sunday at about 8.30am.
“The driver, Lui Sailas, 27, of Tevesa village in Hanganofi, Eastern Highlands, was arrested and charged with four traffic offences and locked up in the cell,” he said.
Chief Insp Yapu said Sailas was charged with: drink driving, negligent driving, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving an uninsured vehicle.
“He is employed by Hornibrooks and working at the project site at Lombrum,” he said.
Chief Insp Yapu appealed to drivers not to drink and drive as they could easily cause accidents and people could be injured or killed.
The driver will appear in the Lorengau District Court tomorrow.
