A MAN was allegedly in possession of 28kg of marijuana packed in two suitcases at Tokua Airport in East New Britain (ENB) on his arrival from Nazab in Lae on Thursday.
ENB police commander Chief Insp Joseph Tabali said the man was caught by PNG Air staff at the terminal.
Chief Insp Tabali said the man, Kelly Giba, from Angoram, East Sepik, lived in Madang.
Giba was arrested and charged with conveying drug and was expected to appear in court this week.
He was detained by Kokopo police.
Chief Insp Tabali claimed the stash was supposed to be transported by sea to Namatanai in New Ireland.
“The street value of the drug is expected to be K62,260,” Chief Insp Tabali said.
“I want to give a big warning to those of you from other provinces, who are trying to bring drugs like marijuana into ENB – must be very careful because police will come down very hard on you if you are caught.”
