GOROKA traffic police on routine highway checks arrested a drug trafficker on one of the highway trucks on its way to Lae, Morobe.

Police picked up one Andrew Lumuwe, 24, of Kenangi village in Watabung, Eastern Highlands, with packed 1.5kg of dried marijuana leaves tightly strapped in newspaper and placed in a small bag.

He was arrested and charged with one count of being in possession of dangerous drugs.

The arrest took place at the Ketarabo section of the highway, south of Goroka on Tuesday last week.

Police found the illicit drug in the truck’s cabin but driver was allowed to go free as he had no knowledge of the content of his passenger’s

bag.

Eastern Highlands provincial police commander Supt John Kale, in commending his officers, warned drug traffickers to stop their illegal activities.
