THREE men were caught yesterday with 14 bags of marijuana along the Poreporena bypass near Hohola in Port Moresby by members of the National Drug and Vice Squad (NDVS).
The bags of drugs were packed among kaukau bags and were shipped into Port Moresby from Lae.
Deputy officer in charge of NDVS, Chief Insp Joel Kapinias said his team had been keeping watch on the suspects and caught them at around 3pm when they picked up their shipments from Konedobu and were on their way back towards Hohola.
Chief Insp Kapinias said the drugs were placed in kaukau bags to conceal them and were transported from Kesevaka village in Henganofi, Eastern Highlands province, to Lae and shipped to Port Moresby.
He said upon arresting the suspects, one of them admitted that the drugs were among the sweet potato, compressed and hidden inside.
The three suspects are all from the Eastern Highlands province.
They are in police custody and will be questioned and charged today.
