DULUX Group (PNG) claimed the Rosso Cup Super Fours eight-ball pool competition after they shut out FTM Scorpions 3-0 in the grand final at Lae’s Aviat Social and Sporting Club on Saturday.
The champions bagged K3,000 while Scorpions settled for K1,500. Losing preliminary finalists Huon Tech and Kuima each claimed K400.
Scorpions had to overcome defending champions Lae Auto Clinic 3-2 in the semifinal and Kuima in the preliminary final before facing Dulux in the grand final.
The best-of-five-frame grand final saw Mario Arsua winning the men’s singles against Charlie Noody and Dulux teammate Nicole Monmai edging Scorpions’ Natasha Siki in the women’s singles.
Dulux wrapped up the grand final, winning the third frame in the mixed doubles.
“As captain of Scorpions, I congratulate my players for reaching the grand final,” Noody said.
“We trusted each other even though our line-up was not great.
“We had confidence in winning all our games. I didn’t think we would reach the grand final against Dulux.
Acting games chairman Johnson said he was grateful for the turnout by all 12 teams.
“We will be increasing the number of teams,” he said.
“The turnout was great. Big thanks to Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso for making it possible by sponsoring the competition.”
