MOUNT Hagen city roads in Western Highlands have received a K10 million face lift – thanks to local MP and Minister for Petroleum and Energy William Duma.
The many crater-like potholes on city roads that posed a threat to motorists are now being patched and upgraded by Wopa Construction Company.
Duma officially launched the road  maintenance project of last month in Mt Hagen city and the company started work the next day.
All potholes in the commercial centre of the city were patched and now the company is slowly moving into the suburbs.
That is bringing great relief for motorists, business houses and the public who used to complain about the deteriorating sections of roads in the city.
Duma’s executive officer in the district, Jim Pena said the deteriorating roads had portrayed a bad
image of the city and province.
Pena said the authorities had ignored the deteriorating roads for too long.
He said Duma, as the MP for Hagen Central, secured the K10 million for the project.
He said this was not a first time Duma had helped the city as three months ago, he presented a backhoe, an administration vehicle and K500,000 to keep the city clean.
He said the city was where people from six districts and others from the Highlands region gathered.
Pena said the upgrading was progressing well.
