LAE City Dwellers have picked 36 players for the upcoming National Soccer League season, according to a club official.
Troy Gunemba told The National that an initial 90 players had been picked from trials with players coming from Lae, Bulolo, Menyamya, Markham, Huon Gulf, Finschhafen and Nawaeb.
“We held our first trial over two weekends with these players divided into four teams in June,” he said.
“From 90, we trimmed the squad to 45 players. We held three matches for our second trial on July 17 and came up with the final squad.
“We have 36 men, including 10 pool players. These pool players will come in when the National Premier League begins. We will come up with another team for that league.” Gunemba said they had selected the players on merit. “We’ve only been selecting players from the city in the past season. But to be fair, we’ve decided to broaden our catchment into the districts.”
