THERE is a steep increase in dysentery cases among prisoners at Buimo prison, an official says.

Facility commander Supt Judy Tara raised the alarm yesterday with a request to the management of the Lae main market for donations of fresh vegetables and fruit.

Market manager Loggy Quosing confirmed receiving the request and sent a bus load of fresh produce there.

“It is not the first time, nor the last for this market to assist Buimo prison with food donations,” Quosing said yesterday.

Quosing claimed there had been an increase in the number of dysentery patients admitted at the Angau Memorial Hospital but that could not be confirmed.
