THE Mt Hagen Eagles are aiming to finish their Digicel Cup season on a high note against the Central Dabaris tomorrow, despite not making the top-six finals.
The Eagles, who have recorded two wins, one draw and seven losses so far, are in ninth spot in the 12-team competition.
“Almost the entire team is new so they have never played together before,” Eagles chairman Bob Pakindi told The National yesterday.
“With the Covid-19 pandemic causing uncertainties before the start of the competition, we didn’t have our normal pre-season.
“We had a short pre-season. The travel to Port Moresby and Lae every week didn’t help.
“Short preparations and no home ground were some factors.
“Apart from that, we don’t have any SP Hunter or Papua New Guinea Kumuls in our team.
“These are just raw talents from the province.
“Our captain Henry Wan is the only experienced player who has played for the Hunters and Kumuls, but is down on form this year.
“It has been very tough for us.”
But Pakindi said he was happy with his team’s two wins over the Enga Mioks and Goroka Lahanis recently.
