FORMER Madang prodigal son Meli Tarangau yesterday inspired Gazelle to a convincing 14-6 victory over Brown Eagles in the Port Moresby men’s A grade softball at Bisini Diamond One.

Batting in the middle order for Gazelle, pitcher Meli was in devastating form not only with his pitching but was equally effective with the bat.

In fact, he scored two of the five home runs for his teams to help his team race away with the score 14-6 at the top of the fourth inning when the game was called off using the “mercy rule”.

Gazelle’s runs were scored by Harry Mathew, Tony Tarani and Levi Uralia.

Brown Eagles scored their four runs which included a home run at the bottom of second inning.

That victory closed off a successful weekend for the antelops as on Saturday they had edged out Kopex 5-4.

The weekend saw the installation of a new leaders as newcomers Yokomo shot to the top of the points table after winning all its matches including a wash-out match to claim the top spot.
