Eagles see off Mioks

THE Hagen Eagles beat the Enga Mioks 12-8 in a typically bruising affair at the Lae Rugby League ground yesterday to round off the first week of the 2016 Digicel Cup finals.
Eagles lock Moses Meninga stood out in the battle of attrition that was the second clash of the weekend’s double-header in the Morobe capital, with the game centering on both sets of forwards staging a pitched battle in the middle third and the ball rarely seeing time on the egdes over the first 25 minutes.
Meninga, took on a dual role as a metre-gainer as well as distributor and pack mates Scott Francis and Israel Balio ran good lines to get into Mioks territory on almost every set.
But the Engans were up for the physicality themselves dishing out as much punishment as they took.
Mioks hooker Danny Aaron was a key man in the opening half directing the raids and organising the ruck defence for his side.
The first points of the game came via apenalty with the Engans 2-0 in front at halftime.
The Eagles scored two tries in the second stanza and defending reolutely while their provincial neighbours could only add one four-pointer to Presely Soto.
