Eagles see off stubborn Cats

THE Bomana Cats gave the unbeaten, West Eagles a big scare before going down by 15-points in their Esiloan Port Moresby AFL match at the Colts Oval on Saturday.
Cats full forward Jackson Nawi had the chance to cut the deficit to three points at one stage but missed two relatively easy shots at goal.
Eagles captain Jeffery Namete showed his opposition how to get the job down with assists from Greg Ekari and Kila Rawali.
Nelson Ulume snapped the first major for the Cats midway into the first frame to stay in the hunt but West’s overall team play saw them add goals from Reagan Naipao and Damien Kani for West to lead 3.1 (13) to 1.1 (7) at the first break.
The Eagles more efficient play saw them maintain their lead at halftime — 4.3 (27) to 3.2 (20).
West maintained the gap leading 5.3 (33) to 4.2 (26) at three-quarter time. The Cats regrouped for one last rally in the final frame snapping a goal and a behind to level the scores at 33-33.
But the Eagles found another gear when they needed it banging home a brace of goals and three minors to win 7.6 (48) to 5.3 (33).
