THE Mt Hagen Wamp Nga Eagles beat the Kemele Hela Wigmen 24-10 in a Digicel Cup rugby league match at the Rebiamul oval in Mt Hagen.

Both teams played hard yesterday but the Eagles proved too strong for the visiting Wigman.

The Wigmen’s Joseph Omai, Oliver Kerry, Rex Opa, Wawa Paul and Albert Waki were relied on heavily.

However, their poor ball handling saw the Eagles scoring five tries and converting two.

The Wigmen retaliated with two tries but it was too little too late.

Eagles captain Jason Tali, Joe Joshua, Francis Pengti and Solo Kumin had strong performances in making sure the Wigmen did not dictate play.

Flying Eagles left wing Solo Kumin scored three tries, with the two others coming from fullback Joe Joshua.

The Wigmen’s two tries came from Oliver Kelly and Philemon Agilo.

The Rebiamul oval was packed with supporters and that gave both teams the heart to play a tough match.

Eagles head coach Joe Tep said he was very pleased with the performance of his players.

“They have made me proud and we will look forward to our next game when we travel to Kundiawa and play the TNA Lions this Sunday,” he said.

“This win is gone but now we will talk about the next game and we will prepare for that.” He said his players followed their game plan and his only  worry was injuries.
