THE Yehimbole Adult Literacy class in the East Yangoru local level government area of Yangoru-Saussia district, East Sepik, has gone into agricultural activities apart from conducting normal classes.

School chairman Lawrence Paramie said they had integrated some life skill training with their adult literacy programmes.

He said in life-skill training, agricultural activities including animal feed production are involved.

“Oxfam International in Wewak has been supporting the literacy programme, especially in capacity building,” Paramie said.

“Oxfam International has brought Nano Consultant from Lae in February where they conducted a week-long food reservation and animal food production course.

“We have 125 students. Out of this, 30 are English students, 30 are taking Tok Pisin classes and 30 are in the zero class while 40 are in the life copying skills class,” Paramie said.

He said from the food reservation training, the students make peanut butter and animal feed which includes chicken feed for broilers.

“The Yehimbole Adult Literacy is encouraging villagers to become more involved in agricultural activities,” he said.

Paramie thanked Oxfam International for their support to Yehimbole.
