Eastern Highlands governor

Letters

REGARDLESS of what past leaders may claim to have proposed,Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu has stood firm in his decision not to entertain groups and politicians.
For a province to split, there are certain aspects that need to be seriously considered.
Resources must be split. Resources create revenue for the province apart, from what the Government gives through PSIPs, DSIPs and other grants to provinces and districts.
It acts like a central bank for the province.
Almost 60 per cent of Eastern Highlands is covered with coffee trees, but sadly, only 10 per cent of the population owns these.
How many of our village coffee farmers now have access to basic services like electricity, roads and water supply to modernise their living standards?
Let us look back to our districts.
Evaluate what we have achieved over the past 20 years in terms of basic service delivery.
Tick those boxes before we come up with ideas of splitting the province.
